Where Dust Settles in Wolfeboro Ductwork

If dust is back on the furniture soon after you clean, even with regular filter changes, some of it may be coming from the ducts. Dust settles along the branch lines that run to each room and in the trunk line, the large main duct those branches join. Each time the system runs, it can pick some of that dust up and send it back out through the registers.

Armstrong cleans one side of the system at a time, supply first, then return. We connect our vacuum to the trunk line and cover the registers so the suction pulls through one open register at a time. Air tools and brushes then go through each branch, driving the dust back into the trunk line, where the vacuum collects it. Then we work along the trunk itself with repeated passes.

Your house might be in the main village at the head of Wolfeboro Bay, in Wolfeboro Falls to the north, or out toward Wolfeboro Center or East Wolfeboro. An older village house, a lake house and a newer home on a wooded lot can each have a different duct layout, so at the start of the visit we confirm where the equipment sits and which sections of the ducts we can reach. Our crews have cleaned air ducts in Wolfeboro homes, and we also clean ducts in Rochester and Concord; more towns are listed on our New Hampshire air duct cleaning page.

Key Benefits

Less Dust Carried From Room to Room

We keep cleaning each section we can reach until its surfaces look clean, which leaves the system less dust to carry through the house. How much difference you notice depends on how much of your dust was coming from the ducts in the first place. Dust from other sources will still need the usual dusting.

A Reset After Renovation or a Move

Renovations and other dusty work inside the house can leave fine dust in the system, so book the cleaning for after that work is finished. A Wolfeboro house you have just bought comes with ducts whose history you may not know. In both cases, a cleaning resets the system to a cleaner starting point.

Gentler Passes for Older Ductwork

Ductwork in an older village house may be aged, or patched and rerouted over the years. On fragile sections we switch to gentler tools and shorter, repeated passes, and check our progress more often.

Your System Checked Before We Begin

Before any cleaning, we run your heating or cooling to confirm it is working. If something is wrong, we tell you right away, before going further. That way a problem that was already there is known before the work begins and is not mistaken for something the cleaning caused.

From Drop Cloths to Test Run in Carroll County Homes

Armstrong has been a NADCA member company since 1990, and the crew that comes to your house works for Armstrong; we never subcontract the work. The crew lays drop cloths along the hose paths and at the corners. Our vacuum stays outside when practical, with its hose brought in; when it cannot, a portable HEPA vacuum is set up near the system instead. When the cleaning is done, our technicians put the system back together, check the filter and replace it if a suitable one is on hand, then run the system to confirm it is cycling. Armstrong stands behind its workmanship for completed in-scope work. Before leaving, they go over which parts of the system were cleaned and any they could not get to.

Questions, answered

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do air ducts need cleaning?

To maintain an efficient HVAC system, NADCA recommends getting your air ducts inspected at least once a year, and cleaned as needed. Homes with more people or a system that runs much of the year tend to need cleaning sooner, and so does a house after renovation work or a move. At the end of each visit, we tell you what to watch for before the next one.

Can I clean my ducts by vacuuming the registers?

Register-by-register vacuuming is what a homeowner could do with a shop vacuum, and it is not duct cleaning. A hose smaller than the branch cannot clean the run that carries air to the room, and that run is where our tools go.

Will you need to cut openings in my ductwork?

Often, yes. To reach the trunk line, we make service openings sized for the vacuum hose, and add more along a long run so the whole length can be reached. Where an existing opening allows proper cleaning, we work through that instead. When the work is done, each opening we made is closed with a sheet-metal access panel sealed with metal tape or mastic, and any duct insulation we disturbed is sealed back up, never with duct tape.

Will cleaning fix a room that never gets as warm as the rest?

It can help when buildup in the ducts is part of the reason. A room can also run cold because of a damaged duct, a problem with the equipment or the way the system was laid out, and cleaning does not repair any of those. If we see a likely cause like that, we point it out so you can have it looked at separately.

Do you spray anything into the ducts?

Not as a routine step. A chemical treatment comes up only when a specific condition calls for it, and we explain it to you before anything is applied. Ozone treatment is not part of our cleaning method.

Our Wolfeboro house sits closed part of the year. When should we have the ducts cleaned?

While a house is closed, dust and debris can settle in the ducts and wait there until the system starts again. If the system has sat unused for a long stretch, plan the cleaning for when you open the house, with the power on and the system working. If you will not be there yourself, arrange for an adult who can make decisions about the work to meet the crew, because we ask before changing anything in the agreed plan.

Who is Armstrong?

About Armstrong Service

The Armstrong Duct & Vent team

Armstrong began in 1965 as a heating company in Manchester, New Hampshire, and has been family-owned ever since. Wolfeboro is in Carroll County, with Ossipee to the north, Wakefield and Brookfield to the east, New Durham to the southeast, Alton to the south and Tuftonboro to the west. Moody Mountain, near the northern line, is the town’s highest point. NH 28 and NH 109 meet in the main village, and the Smith River carries water from Lake Wentworth, where Wentworth State Park lies on the shore, into Lake Winnipesaukee.

Before the visit, clear a path to the furnace or air handler and to the registers and return grilles, and keep pets in a closed room. If part of the system is hard to reach, such as ductwork above a finished ceiling, mention it when you book so we know before we arrive.
